Esther Edquist is Melbourne artist Sweet Whirl. In May 2020 she released her debut album How Much Works via Chapter Music.

How Much Works is the love-addled confessions of a seasoned party girl, romantic yet sardonic, with a knowing sense of the timeless victory of song. Esther dissects experiences with wit and depth, emerging as a powerful, indomitable voice.

The album was acclaimed locally and internationally, heralded by the likes of Mojo Magazine, The Fader, NME and The Age. How Much Works was a Triple R album of the week, lead track Sweetness received high rotation on Double J, and Sweet Whirl was an independent artist of the week for FBI Radio.

Remixes of Sweetness by Andras and Rachow were released in late 2020, and the Andras remix has clocked over 2.5 million streams on Apple Music and Spotify. Gregor and Sweet Whirl released a darkly stylish cover of CCR’s Have You Ever Seen the Rain for RISING Festival in 2021.

Sweet Whirl has performed at Malthouse Theatre, City Recital Hall, Meredith, Meadow and Brunswick Music Festival. Three songs from How Much Works were featured in season 1 of Stan series BUMP, and Andras' Sweetness remix in season 2.

Esther previously played in Melbourne duo Superstar, who released two delay-drenched albums during the mid 2010s. She has also been a member of Scott & Charlene’s Wedding and Crayon Fields.
