Best known for her 1976 hit Girls In Our Town, Margret played her first show in 1963 at the Emerald Hill Theatre at the invitation of folk icon Glen Tomasetti.

In the 70s and early 80s, she released a series of acclaimed albums mostly via Festival Records, including People Get Ready (1973), Margret RoadKnight (1976), Ice (1978), and Out of Fashion…Not Out Of Style (1981). She has toured the world countless times, often representing Australia, playing everywhere from Broome to Hobart, Beijing to Memphis, Paris to Auckland, Edinburgh to Tel Aviv, New York to Seoul, Amsterdam to Dublin, New Orleans to London, Vancouver to Nuku'alofa.

Her signature song Girls In Our Town, written by Bob Hudson, became an Australian top 20 hit in early 1976. Margret’s version has become an Australian standard, recently entered into the Sounds Of Australian Collection in the National Film and Sound Archive.

One of the last great interpreters of others’ songs, Margret moves with ease across jazz, blues, gospel, folk, comedy and social commentary, championing undeservedly lesser known Australian songwriters as well as gems from the songbooks of Loudon Wainwright III, Malvina Reynolds, Dory Previn and others.

Margret has shared stages with Archie Roach, Renee Geyer, John Martyn, Fairport Convention and others, and recorded with Judy Bailey, Phil Manning, Jeannie Lewis and Judy Jacques. In 2018, Margret received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the inaugural Australian Women In Music Awards.
